Madonna postpones tour after stay in ICU
Pop icon Madonna has postponed her upcoming tour after developing a serious bacterial infection and spending several days in the ICU.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, said that the singer “developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU.” He added that Madonna is “improving” but is still under medical care and that a full recovery is expected.
The tour, which was scheduled to begin in July, was to celebrate Madonna’s 40-year career in music. It was to be her first tour since 2019.
Oseary said that Madonna is “deeply sorry” to disappoint her fans but that she “needs to focus on her health right now.” He said that new dates for the tour will be announced: “as soon as possible.”
Madonna is 64 years old and has been open about her health struggles in the past. In 2019, she canceled several shows on her Madame X tour due to injuries to her knee and hip.
She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 300 million records sold worldwide. She has won seven Grammy Awards and is a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors.
