Seth MacFarlane donates $1 million to keep the striking actors and writers going

KISS | August 2, 2023

Actor, writer, and producer Seth MacFarlane has donated $1 million to the Entertainment Community Fund (ECF) to assist industry workers impacted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

The ECF is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to entertainment workers who are unable to work due to strikes, lockouts, or other unforeseen circumstances. The fund has already raised over $6.3 million since May 1, when the WGA went on strike.

MacFarlane’s donation is the largest single donation to the ECF since the strikes began. In a statement, MacFarlane said that he was “deeply concerned” about the impact the strikes were having on workers, and that he wanted to do his part to help.

“I know that many of these workers are struggling to make ends meet,” MacFarlane said. “I hope that my donation will help them get through this difficult time.”

The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes have been ongoing for over two months. The unions are seeking better compensation and working conditions for their members. The strikes have caused the cancellation or delay of several television shows and movies.

It is unclear how long the strikes will last. However, MacFarlane’s donation is a sign that there is still support for the striking workers.
