Dewey Finn Might Shred Again! Jack Black Open to Returning to School of Rock

KISS | March 13, 2024

It’s been 20 years since Jack Black rocked our world as Dewey Finn, the wannabe rockstar masquerading as a substitute teacher in the cult classic “School of Rock.” And let’s face it, the world needs a good dose of Dewey’s chaotic energy and air-guitar mastery now more than ever.

So, is there a chance for a return trip to Horace Green Prep? According to Black himself, the answer is a resounding “maybe!” In a recent interview, Black revealed he’d never rule out revisiting Dewey Finn. “Look,” he said, air-quoting with devilish glee, “I’m not a big sequel guy, but School of Rock was something special.”

While Black acknowledges his aversion to sequels, he also admits the film holds a special place in his heart. Perhaps it’s the enduring legacy of the film, or maybe the chance to reunite with the now-grown-up child actors who stole hearts with their pint-sized rock n’ roll prowess.

Here’s the thing: a sequel could be a goldmine of comedic potential. Imagine Dewey, all these years later, still clinging to the dream of rock stardom, maybe managing a failing themed restaurant called “Dewey’s Rockade.” Then, fate intervenes (probably involving a wacky lawsuit or a rent hike that rivals Spinal Tap’s Stonehenge woes) and Dewey finds himself back in the classroom, molding a new generation of rockers. The possibilities are endless, and with Black at the helm, the laughs would be guaranteed.

Of course, there’s always the risk of tarnishing a beloved classic. But hey, if done right, a School of Rock sequel could be a triumphant return to form, a chance to revisit these characters we love and see how they’ve grown (or, in Dewey’s case, maybe not grown at all).

So, buckle up, rock fans! While a School of Rock sequel isn’t confirmed, Jack Black’s coy “never say never” leaves the door wide open. One thing’s for sure: if Dewey Finn does return, it’s gonna be legendary. Just remember to loosen up your air guitar skills – you might need them when the power of rock compels you to headbang along.
