Disney’s Snow White Premiere pulled back

KISS | March 12, 2025

Disney’s live-action Snow White has been a topic of controversy since its announcement, and now the company has scaled back its premiere, set for March 15. Unlike typical Disney red-carpet events, the premiere will be a smaller affair at the El Capitan Theatre, with limited media coverage. This has led to speculation that Disney is trying to avoid further backlash.

The controversy began with Rachel Zegler’s casting as Snow White, which sparked debate due to her Colombian and Polish heritage. Critics argued that the Disney princess, described as having “skin as white as snow,” should not have been portrayed by a woman of color. Zegler also faced backlash for her comments about the 1937 original film, calling it outdated and emphasizing a modern take where Snow White is not “saved by the prince.”

Additionally, the film faced criticism over its portrayal of the seven dwarfs, prompting Disney to reconsider their depiction. On top of this, speculation about political differences between Zegler and co-star Gal Gadot, along with an awkward Oscars appearance, fueled rumors of tension between them.

While Disney has not confirmed the reasons for scaling back the premiere, it is clear that the film’s reception remains highly polarizing.
