Jay-Z’s Made in America festival cancelled

KISS | August 14, 2023

The 2023 Made in America festival, founded by Jay-Z, has been cancelled just weeks before it was scheduled to take place in Philadelphia.

In a statement posted on social media, festival organizers said that the decision to cancel was made “due to severe circumstances outside of production control.” They did not elaborate on what those circumstances were.

The festival was scheduled to take place on September 2 and 3 on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. The lineup included headliners Lizzo and SZA, as well as Miguel, Tems, Ice Spice, Cam’ron, and many others.

The cancellation comes as Lizzo is facing allegations of sexual harassment by her former dancers. The singer has denied the allegations, but they have cast a shadow over the festival.

In a statement to Billboard, a spokesperson for Made in America said that the festival would be back in 2024.

“We are disappointed to announce that the 2023 Made in America festival will not be taking place,” the spokesperson said. “We are committed to delivering a top-tier festival experience for our fans and artists, and we believe that this is the best decision for the festival at this time.”

The cancellation of Made in America is a blow to the city of Philadelphia and to the music industry. The festival was a major economic driver for the city, and it was a showcase for up-and-coming artists. It is unclear what the future holds for Made in America, but it is a reminder that even the most well-established festivals are not immune to cancellation.

In the wake of the cancellation, some fans have expressed disappointment and anger. Others have expressed support for the festival organizers, saying that they made the right decision under difficult circumstances.

It remains to be seen what the long-term impact of the cancellation will be. However, it is clear that Made in America’s cancellation is a major loss for the music industry.
